Wolfpack Bet on a Third-Year Bailey and a Portal-Built Rebuild in a Pivotal 2026

NC State finished 8-5 (4-4 ACC) in 2025, closing on a three-game winning streak that ended with a Gasparilla Bowl rout of Memphis, the program's first bowl victory since 2017. That late surge handed a 14th-year Dave Doeren staff real momentum heading into a pivotal season, even as the roster turned over sharply. Both coordinators return, play-caller Kurt Roper and defensive coordinator DJ Eliot each entering a second year, and the offense is built around a rare commodity: a third-year starting quarterback. The catch is that nearly everyone around him is new, with the portal doing most of the rebuilding on both sides of the ball.
