Shyheim Battle from Rocky Mount High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Battle opted to join North Carolina State.In 2020 as a freshman Battle saw action in 12 games and played a total of 756 snaps at cornerback for the Wolfpack. He recorded 27 tackles, no assists, while adding 5 stops. In coverage Battle notched up 8 pass breakups, one interception, and QB rating when targetted of 77.8.
As a sophomore in 2021 he played in 12 games and logged 534 snaps for the Wolfpack. He made 25 tackles, 3 assists, and had 7 stops. In coverage he totaled 6 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 60.8.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Can get up under a receiver’s chin and has the speed to flip his hips and run downfield. Battle has the quick and surprisingly powerful hands to jostle receivers early. But he’s at his best peeking into the backfield.
- Exceptionally quick, with the feet and fluidity to mirror underneath, including in the slot against the two-way go. He stays low in his backpedal and explodes toward the ball, with an outstanding closing burst.
- Effective out of the slot, showing the instincts and quickness to mirror when the receiver has a two-way go. Battle has good instincts and awareness when playing off, showing good route recognition and anticipation when breaking on the ball.
- Attacks the ball with authority, with quick read-and-react ability. Willing and physical tackler, flashes toughness and aggressive nature vs. the run.
- He’s also very good in zone coverage, showing a great understanding of routes and the ability to close quickly.
- Tracks the ball well and has the natural ball skills for forcing turnovers.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Struggles to transition and drive out of his backpedal when playing off-man. Like a lot of physical corners at the collegiate level, he’s too handsy downfield at this point.
- Battle plays high and tends to struggle with change of direction, and Battle also shows some stiffness when he has to flip his hips.
- He’ll draw plenty of flags early on with his playing style. Battle is hesitant when facing the action in zone coverage.
