The rookie who erased Mike Ditka's 63-year-old record
Brock Bowers spent one NFL autumn rewriting record books that had stood since the Kennedy administration. Drafted 13th overall by the Raiders in 2024 out of Georgia, where he won two national titles and two John Mackey Awards, he caught 112 passes for 1,194 yards as a rookie. The receptions broke Puka Nacua's mark for any rookie, and the yardage passed Mike Ditka's 1961 standard for a rookie tight end. He also topped Darren Waller's franchise single-season catch record along the way.
What made it stranger was the setting. Las Vegas cycled through quarterbacks and lost far more than it won, yet Bowers kept moving chains from the slot, the wing and out wide, earning first-team All-Pro honors in his debut season.
His Madden arc is short and steep. He entered as a 78 in the 2024 edition, a fair number for an unproven rookie, then jumped to 90 in the 2025 game once the numbers were on paper. Few players make that leap in a single offseason.
