Jared Goff was born October 14, 1994 in Novato, California, and played college football at California, where he set Pac-12 single-season records with 4,714 passing yards and 43 touchdowns in 2015. The Los Angeles Rams selected him first overall in the 2016 draft. He started seven games as a rookie and lost all seven. Madden NFL 17 listed him at 77 overall for that 2016 season.
Goff was named PFWA Most Improved Player in 2017, then passed for 4,688 yards in 2018 and started Super Bowl LIII, a 13-3 loss to New England in which he completed 19 of 38 passes. Madden NFL 19 rated him 83 overall for 2018. Detroit acquired him in the 2021 trade that sent Matthew Stafford to the Rams. On September 30, 2024 he went 18-for-18 for 292 yards against Seattle, the first quarterback to complete every pass in a game with at least 11 attempts.
In 2023 he led the Lions to their first playoff win since 1991 and a 34-31 NFC Championship Game loss at San Francisco, a season for which Madden NFL 24 rated him 80 overall. He threw for 4,629 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2024 as Detroit went 15-2, and Madden NFL 25 listed him at 82. The Lions finished 9-8 in 2025. Through the 2025 season he had 39,622 career passing yards and five Pro Bowl selections.
