A 346-pound nose tackle who threw a touchdown pass
A high school coach found Dontari Poe in the marching band and talked him into football, a strange origin for a man who would become the largest player in NFL history to throw a touchdown pass. Kansas City drafted him 11th overall in 2012 out of Memphis, betting on a 346-pound frame that somehow ran a 4.98 forty and put up 44 bench reps at the combine.
The bet paid off fast. Poe anchored the Chiefs' front, earned Pro Bowl trips after the 2013 and 2014 seasons, and moonlighted as a goal-line novelty, scoring on a shovel play called Hungry Pig Right against Oakland and lofting a jump-pass touchdown to Demetrius Harris against Denver in 2016. After Kansas City he bounced through Atlanta, Carolina, and Dallas. His Madden value spiked hard and early, opening at 77 in 2012 before rocketing to a 91 in the 2014 edition on the strength of that Pro Bowl run, then sliding into the high 70s and low 80s as the mileage added up.
