Rodger P. Saffold III was born on June 6, 1988 in Bedford, Ohio, and played college football at Indiana, starting 41 games for the Hoosiers. The St. Louis Rams selected him in the second round of the 2010 draft, 33rd overall. He started all 16 games at left tackle as a rookie and made the PFWA All-Rookie Team, and Madden NFL 11 listed him at 71 for that season.
Injuries cut his 2011 season to nine games and his 2012 season to ten. He moved inside and started all 16 games in 2014, the year Madden NFL 15 gave him an 87, the highest figure of his career. The Associated Press named him second-team All-Pro at left guard after the 2017 season, and the Rams reached Super Bowl LIII on February 3, 2019, losing 13-3 to New England.
Saffold signed with Tennessee in March 2019 and blocked for Derrick Henry through two rushing titles, including Henry's 2,027-yard season in 2020. He was selected to the Pro Bowl after the 2021 season, which Madden NFL 22 covered with an 85. Buffalo signed him in March 2022, and he was named a Pro Bowl replacement in January 2023. He played 176 NFL games across 13 seasons and started 173 of them.
