Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
A
ValueA
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Dolphins for Bowen: A. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Eli Bowen, the No. 180 name on the board, stolen at No. 243.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Will Echoles and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Will Echoles
In the 25th overall pick they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Yhonzae Pierre
Circle this one: Yhonzae Pierre at the 35th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick43
Rnd2
Trey'Dez Green
Trey'Dez Green at Round 2, Pick 11 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jordan Seaton
Taking Jordan Seaton in slot 67 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90
Rnd3
Sam Leavitt
Sam Leavitt at pick 90 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick105
Rnd4
Deuce Alexander
The board fumbled Deuce Alexander all the way to No. 105, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick142
Rnd5
Sammy Omosigho
Sammy Omosigho in pick No. 142 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick163
Rnd5
Brandon Baker
Nothing to complain about; Brandon Baker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick167
Rnd5
Zereoue Williams
They barely believed it either: Zereoue Williams still on the board at Round 5, Pick 28. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick175
Rnd5
DJ Vonnahme
They paid sticker price for DJ Vonnahme in the 175th overall pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick182
Rnd6
Kemari Copeland
They read the board right and Kemari Copeland was the payoff at pick 182. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick243
Rnd7
Eli Bowen
Somehow Eli Bowen was still sitting there in pick No. 243, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick255
Rnd7
Carlos Hernandez
You do not let a wide receiver like Carlos Hernandez reach slot 255 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
