Alex Boone was a two-time All-Big Ten tackle at Ohio State whose draft stock evaporated amid concerns about his drinking, and he went unselected in 2009 before the 49ers signed him as a free agent. He got sober, moved inside to guard, and turned into one of the better run blockers of San Francisco's Jim Harbaugh era.

By 2012 he was a full-time starter on a line that bulldozed opponents, and that season the 49ers reached Super Bowl XLVII, where their offense set records against Baltimore even in a 34-31 loss. Boone played parts of nine seasons, later suiting up for the Vikings, Cardinals, and Seahawks, a genuine reclamation story built on the field, not just off it.
