Rams sixth-round QB: two Pro Bowls, 22,814 passing yards
Marc Bulger was born on April 5, 1977, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and threw for 8,153 yards at West Virginia. The New Orleans Saints drafted him in the sixth round of the 2000 draft, 168th overall, and waived him; he reached the St. Louis Rams' practice squad later that year. Injuries to Kurt Warner and Jamie Martin put him on the field in 2002, and he went 6-0 in games he started and finished. Madden NFL 03 listed him at 50 overall for that season.
Warner's opening-week concussion in 2003 gave Bulger the job. He led St. Louis to 12-4 and the NFC West title and was most valuable player of the Pro Bowl that followed, a season Madden NFL 04 rated 83. On September 10, 2006, he reached 1,000 career completions in his 45th game, faster than any quarterback before him; he threw for 4,301 yards that year, made a second Pro Bowl, and stood at 90 in Madden NFL 07.
A six-year, $62.5 million extension in July 2007 made him the highest-paid player in Rams history. Madden NFL 08 carried his career-high 94 for that season, which St. Louis finished 3-13 as Bulger threw more interceptions than touchdowns for the first time. He spent 2010 as Joe Flacco's backup in Baltimore without taking a snap and retired on August 2, 2011, with 22,814 passing yards and 122 touchdown passes.
