Marty Booker was born on July 31, 1976 in Marrero, Louisiana, played quarterback at Jonesboro-Hodge High School, moved to receiver at Louisiana-Monroe, and was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the third round, 78th overall, in 1999. He caught 19 passes as a rookie and 47 in 2000. Madden NFL 2001 listed him at 77 for the 2000 season, and Madden NFL 02 dropped him to 65 for 2001.
He started all 16 games in 2001 and caught 100 passes for 1,071 yards and eight touchdowns, breaking the Bears single-season reception record of 93 that Johnny Morris set in 1964. He followed it with 97 catches for 1,189 yards in 2002, including 198 yards against Minnesota in the September 8 opener, and was named to the Pro Bowl, the first Bears wide receiver selected in three decades. Madden NFL 03 rated him 83 for 2002, and Madden NFL 04 raised him to 90 for 2003.
Chicago traded him to Miami in August 2004 for defensive end Adewale Ogunleye. He played four seasons there and led the Dolphins in receiving yards and touchdowns in 2006; Madden NFL 06 had listed him at 85 for the 2005 season. He returned to Chicago in 2008 and played a final season with Atlanta in 2009. Across 11 seasons he caught 539 passes for 6,703 yards and 37 touchdowns in 157 games.
