Sub-4.3 speed in the middle of Seattle's defense

Anthony Simmons ran the 40 in the 4.2s, freakish speed for a linebacker, and that is what pushed the Seahawks to take the Clemson star 15th overall in 1998. He played the position sideline to sideline, leading Seattle in tackles in 2000, 2001 and 2003 and finishing with 591 tackles, nine interceptions and 10 sacks over seven seasons.

Injuries kept him from lasting stardom. Seattle released him after 2004, he sat out 2005 hurt, and he retired without ever playing a down for New Orleans after signing there in 2006.

Madden rewarded the athletic prime. Simmons sat at 77 in both the 2000 and 2001 editions, then jumped to a career-high 92 in the 2003 and 2004 games as he was piling up tackles, before the number dropped to 89 in 2005 as his body began to give out.
