Greg Biekert Madden Career 1995-2004 - Peak 87 OVR

Ask a Raiders fan about the 2001 divisional playoff in the snow, and Greg Biekert's name comes up before the Tuck Rule does. He recovered Tom Brady's apparent fumble that would have sealed an Oakland win, only to watch the call reversed. Brady admitted in 2022 it might have been a fumble. Small consolation.

A seventh-round pick, 181st overall out of Colorado in 1993 and part of the Buffaloes' 1990 national title team, Biekert became the quiet constant of the Raiders' defense. He led the team in tackles for six seasons, including four straight from 1998 to 2001, and started 155 of the 176 games he played. He closed his career with two seasons in Minnesota before retiring after 2003.

Madden rewarded the steadiness. He sat at 72 in the 1996 edition, but by the 2000 release he had climbed to a career-best 89. From there the arc bent downward with age, an 87 in 2001, an 84 in 2002, and an 82 in his final 2003 edition.
