Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueB-

TradesF
FutureB-
The Bears bled value on every deal, hence the D-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Oscar Delp a full 78 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
On value alone, Downs makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In pick No. 18 they get a ballhawk on the back end, and a steal at that.
Pick32
Rnd1
Joshua Josephs
In No. 32 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Isaiah World
They took Isaiah World at par in slot 38, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick50
Rnd2
Dontay Corleone
A tidy little value on Dontay Corleone in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick82
Rnd3
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at the 82nd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick103
Rnd4
Austin Romaine
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Austin Romaine well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick106
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick127
Rnd4
Nic Anderson
The board had cheaper options than Nic Anderson at Round 4, Pick 27, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick158
Rnd5
Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at pick No. 158 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick218
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
A big swing on Bear Alexander at the 218th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245
Rnd7
Ricardo Hallman
No drama and no debate, Ricardo Hallman went about where he belonged in slot 245. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick252
Rnd7
Joenel Aguero
A reach for Joenel Aguero in No. 252; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
