Draft Profile: Bio
Zeke Berry played at De La Salle High School in Concord, California. He committed to Arizona as a four-star recruit before flipping to Michigan. His mother is Charise Poindexter.

Berry played in two games in 2022 and 11 in 2023, when Michigan won the national championship. He started 12 of 13 games in 2024, eight at nickel and four outside, making 37 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, against Fresno State and Indiana, and nine passes defended, and he was an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick. In 2025 he made 33 tackles, an interception and a team-high number of passes defended, and he was a second-team All-Big Ten pick.

Berry briefly entered the transfer portal after head coach Sherrone Moore was fired and defensive coordinator Don Martindale was not retained, but he returned in January for his final season, saying he wanted to play with the people he started with one more time. He made the biggest play of Michigan's 13-6 overtime loss to No. 6 Indiana, intercepting Josh Hoover at midfield and returning it to the Indiana 13 to set up a field goal, and he added a diving pass breakup. He has 21 tackles, an interception and three pass breakups in seven games, and Michigan won 28-21 at Rutgers on 31 October.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Versatile defender with starts at nickel and outside corner
  • Earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in his 2025 season
  • Four career interceptions, including a big return against Indiana this season
  • Experienced four-year contributor on a national championship roster
  • Strong ball skills, with nine passes defended in 2024
  • Has missed three tackles in seven games this season
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Average timed speed limits him against vertical routes outside
  • Allowed 415 yards on 58 targets in 2025
  • Missed nine tackles in 11 games in 2025
  • Flagged three times in seven games this season
Scouting Report: Summary
Berry is a versatile, experienced defensive back who has played nickel and outside corner for one of the Big Ten's top defenses. He started 12 games in 2024, eight at nickel and four outside, with two interceptions and nine passes defended, and he was a second-team All-Big Ten pick in 2025 after leading Michigan in passes defended. He also won a national title with Michigan in 2023, so he has played on the biggest stages. His versatility gives a defense options against both slot and outside receivers.

His decision to return for 2026 has paid off in big moments. He briefly entered the portal after Michigan's coaching changes but came back to play with the teammates he started with. His interception at midfield against No. 6 Indiana, returned to the Indiana 13, set up Michigan's only points in a 13-6 overtime loss, and he added a diving pass breakup. He has missed only three tackles in seven games this season.

However, his speed is average, which limits his ability to stay with vertical routes when he plays outside, and his best fit is likely at nickel. He allowed 35 catches for 415 yards on 58 targets in 2025 and missed nine tackles that season, and he has been flagged three times this season. His frame is light, so bigger receivers and blockers can test him in run support. Teams will want to see how he times at the combine to judge whether he can play outside.

Overall, Berry is a smart, experienced nickel with ball skills, versatility and big-game experience. He projects as a fourth-round defensive back with the ceiling of a starting nickel and the floor of a reliable backup and special teams player. His ability to play inside and outside should give him value on a roster from his first season.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
