M.J. Devonshire from Aliquippa High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Devonshire opted to join Kentucky.In 2019 as a freshman Devonshire saw action in just 3 games and played a total of 51 snaps at cornerback for the Wildcats. He recorded only 5 tackles, one assist, while adding one stop. In coverage Devonshire notched up one pass breakup, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 57.6.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played in 9 games and logged 76 snaps for the Wildcats. He made only one tackle, no assists, and had no stops. In coverage he totaled one pass breakup, no interceptions, and an unimpressive QB rating when targetted of 120.8.
After season's end Devonshire transferred to Pittsburgh where as a junior for the Panthers in 2021 Devonshire played in 12 games and took part in 412 snaps for the Panthers. - Trusts his eyes with very good awareness. Has very good reaction skills to break quickly on the ball.
- Stout and feisty. Will engage, shed and securely wrap the ballcarrier. Very fluid hips, backpedal and change-of-direction agility.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Neither his size nor his straight-line speed would be considered elite
- Too often gives too much of a cushion while playing off his man, and it becomes especially problematic since he’s not a particularly willing tackler.
- Needs work on backpedaling to prevent defenders from getting behind him.
