Jyaire Hill starred at Kankakee High School in Illinois, intercepting nine passes and forcing six fumbles as a junior on a team that reached the Class 5A title game, then making three interceptions and forcing three fumbles as a senior to earn conference defensive player of the year. He also ran on state-champion 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams and played in the U.S. Army Bowl. He was a Chicago Sun-Times All-Area pick and an all-state long jumper, and Michigan signed him as a four-star recruit.Hill redshirted on Michigan's 2023 national title team and started nine games in 2024, intercepting a pass against Minnesota and recording his first sack at Washington. He started all 13 games in 2025, making 36 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble against USC and an interception against Ohio State, and he earned honorable mention All-Big Ten and the team's defensive skill player of the year award. He made three tackles in the Citrus Bowl against Texas.
Hill considered leaving but announced his return for 2026 in January. He has played in all eight games for a 5-3 team, with an interception and two pass breakups, and he has allowed 16 catches on 28 targets. He has said he wants to win the Thorpe Award and that every Michigan corner has to be able to play every position in the secondary.
