Zabien Brown played at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, where he made 32 tackles and three interceptions as a junior and played in the All-American Bowl. PrepStar rated him a five-star recruit and 247Sports ranked him the No. 3 cornerback in the 2024 class, and he picked Alabama over USC, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State.Brown started all 13 games as a true freshman in 2024, intercepting three passes, returning a fumble 68 yards for a touchdown against Mercer and sealing the 41-34 win over Georgia with an end-zone interception on the final play. He was named Freshman All-SEC. In 2025 he made 39 tackles and six pass breakups, returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown at Tennessee and took another 50 yards for a score against Oklahoma. The Tennessee game earned him Nagurski national player of the week and SEC co-defensive player of the week honors, and he left the SEC title game against Georgia with an injury.
Brown was a preseason All-American and was named a permanent team captain in September 2026. He broke up passes against Florida State and South Carolina and forced a fumble at Mississippi State, but he hurt his lower leg at Tennessee on 17 October, left in the second quarter and missed the win over Texas A&M. Kalen DeBoer has said he has a great head on his shoulders.

Scouting Report: Summary
Brown is a fast, physical corner whose ball skills have produced big plays since his first season. He has rare speed, sealed a win over Georgia with an end-zone interception as a true freshman and returned two interceptions for touchdowns in 2025, including a 99-yarder at Tennessee. He is also a willing run defender who plays with an edge on the perimeter, and Alabama named him a permanent captain as a junior.His 2026 season has been steadier than spectacular. He broke up passes against Florida State and South Carolina and forced a fumble at Mississippi State, and offenses have not targeted him often. Then he hurt his lower leg at Tennessee in October and missed the Texas A&M game, and Alabama has not said when he will return. He also forced a fumble at Mississippi State, his second forced fumble in two seasons.
However, the coverage has not been as tight as his reputation. Quarterbacks have completed 12 of 22 passes against him for 207 yards this season, he has no interceptions, and he has missed seven tackles in seven games after missing five in all of 2025. He can grab at the top of routes when he loses a step, and receivers who get vertical early can win on him. He also left the 2025 SEC title game with an injury, so the leg will be on the medical checklist.
Overall, Brown has the speed, physicality and playmaking teams want in a starting corner, and he has three seasons of SEC starts behind him. He projects as a second-round corner and an early starter whose best case is a top boundary cover man if his technique tightens. His three interceptions as a freshman and two pick-sixes as a sophomore show the ball skills are real, and his speed gives him recovery range few corners have.

Brown left the Tennessee game on 17 October in the second quarter with a lower-leg injury and was listed doubtful for Texas A&M. Before the injury he led Alabama with four pass breakups.
