Draft Profile: Bio
LeVar Thornton Jr. had six career interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, at Timber Creek High School in the Fort Worth area. A four-star cornerback, he also played basketball and finished fourth in the Texas Class 6A high jump at 6 feet 6 inches. He committed to Baylor in June 2022 over offers from Army, Boise State and Vanderbilt.Thornton saw action in four games during his 2023 redshirt year. He was on the field for all 13 games in 2024, intercepting a pass against Oklahoma State and recovering a fumble. He was an 11-game starter in 2025, with 30 tackles, an interception and seven pass breakups, though a concussion kept him out of the Oklahoma State game.
Thornton entered 2026 as the leader of the Bears' cornerback room and has started every game. He broke up three passes against Louisiana Tech and two more in the 41-9 win at UCF. His tackling has been inconsistent, with four misses against Colorado alone.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Elite speed for a long cornerback, timed among the fastest at his position
- Eight pass breakups this season, including three against Louisiana Tech
- Two pass breakups in the 41-9 rout of UCF
- Three-year contributor who has started for two seasons
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Missed eight tackles, half of them coming against Colorado
- No interceptions this season despite plenty of targets
- Auburn caught five passes on him for 60 yards in the opener
- Very light for his height and can be pushed around in the run game
- Penalized three times, including at Kansas and against TCU
Scouting Report: Summary
Thornton is a long, fast cornerback who gets his hands on a lot of passes. He has eight breakups this season, including three against Louisiana Tech, and he has the speed to carry receivers down the field. However, his tackling is poor, with eight misses this year and four against Colorado. He is also very light for his frame, he has not intercepted a pass this season and he has drawn three flags.
Overall, Thornton has the length and speed teams look for at cornerback but needs to get stronger. He projects as a priority free agent whose upside depends on adding weight.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
