Florida Atlantic third-rounder who became the NFL sack king
Trey Hendrickson took the long way to the top. A third-round pick out of Florida Atlantic in 2017, 103rd overall, he was a rotational rusher in New Orleans for three years before his 13.5-sack season in 2020 forced people to notice. Cincinnati bet $60 million on him in 2021, and he rewarded it immediately with a franchise-record 14 sacks and a run to Super Bowl LVI.
What followed was sustained dominance. He piled up 17.5 sacks in 2023, then 17.5 again in 2024 to lead the entire NFL and win the Deacon Jones Award, and he made four straight Pro Bowls from 2021 through 2024. For a player once labeled a backup, the reinvention into an elite edge bender is close to total.
His Madden number rose in lockstep with the sack totals. He debuted at a 69 in the 2017 edition, crept into the 80s during his first Bengals seasons, and reached a 92 in the 2025 game after leading the league. He signed with Baltimore in 2026.
