Ali Marpet came out of Hobart College, an NCAA Division III school in Geneva, New York, and when Tampa Bay took him in the second round at 61st overall in 2015, he became the highest-drafted player in Division III history. The gap between where he came from and where he landed never showed. He made the All-Rookie team, then handled a rare position tour: right guard first, a shift to center in 2017, then left guard when the Bucs brought in Ryan Jensen in 2018.

He was voted a team captain, signed a five-year extension worth better than $55 million, and anchored the interior of the Buccaneers line that won Super Bowl LV over Kansas City for the 2020 season. A Pro Bowl nod followed the 2021 campaign. Then, at 28, with two years left on his deal, he simply walked away in February 2022, healthy and on his own terms. His Madden arc mirrors the trajectory, a 70 for the rookie in the 2015 game rising to a 90 in the 2021 edition, right as he protected a title. Not many guards leave with the timing that good.
