Rookie linebacker who chased Super Bowl XL with 7.5 sacks

Leroy Hill arrived in Seattle as a third-round pick out of Clemson in 2005 and immediately produced, racking up 7.5 sacks as a rookie for the NFC champions who reached Super Bowl XL, a 21-10 loss to Pittsburgh. Playing weakside next to Lofa Tatupu, he brought pressure off the edge that few rookie linebackers could match.

He stayed a fixture of the Seattle front seven through 2011, blending speed and blitz timing. His later years were complicated by legal trouble, including arrests on domestic violence and drug allegations that shadowed the back half of his career. He finished his time in the league with Seattle and years afterward returned to Clemson to complete his degree.

The rating history reflects a fast start and a plateau. Hill opens at 84 in the 2006 edition off that rookie season and nudges to 85 in 2007. The 2008 edition marks his high point at 89, recognition of his standing as a starting-caliber playmaker. From there it recedes, to 83 in 2009 and the low 80s through the 2012 edition as injuries and off-field matters took their toll.
