Miami's rookie tight end who never came off the field
Randy McMichael became the first Dolphins rookie tight end to start every game, a fourth-round pick out of Georgia in 2002 who was in the lineup from day one and stayed there. His 2004 season, 73 catches for 791 yards, set the franchise single-season standard for the position, and he started 64 straight games through 2005.
Miami let him walk after five years, and he did steady work for the Rams and then San Diego, finishing with 283 receptions for 3,096 yards. In Madden he rose fast, from an 82 in the 2003 edition to a high of 92 in the 2006 edition, before age and a move west pulled the numbers back into the 70s. A dependable seam target in an era when the position was still figuring out what it could be.
