Grant Wistrom Madden Career 1999-2007 - Peak 91 OVR
Three Nebraska titles, a Lombardi, and a motor that never idled
At Nebraska he won three national titles in four years, took the 1997 Lombardi Award as the country's best lineman, and left Lincoln as a two-time consensus All-American. The St. Louis Rams made him the sixth pick of the 1998 draft, and he became a full-throttle right end on the Greatest Show on Turf teams, the sprinting counterweight to all those points Warner and Faulk piled up. His first NFL sack came against Steve Young, and his ring came in Super Bowl XXXIV, when the Rams stopped Tennessee at the goal line.
He never posted gaudy sack totals, finishing with 45.5 over nine seasons, but coaches loved the run defense and the effort. After six years in St. Louis he signed with Seattle in 2004 and played three more seasons for the Seahawks.
In Madden his overall climbed from an 85 in the 2000 edition to a 91 by 2004, then held in the high 80s through his Seattle run. He entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009, remembered as much for how hard he chased as for what he caught.
