Andrew Jon McCollum was born on June 2, 1970 in Akron, Ohio and played college football at Toledo, where he was twice a first-team All-Mid-American Conference pick. He went undrafted, signed with the Arena Football League's Milwaukee Mustangs in 1994, spent 1995 with the Barcelona Dragons of the World League as a second-team all-league selection, and started nine games at right guard for the New Orleans Saints that autumn. Madden NFL 96 listed him at a calculated 66 for the 1995 season.
He played center and guard in New Orleans through 1998, then joined St. Louis in 1999 as a reserve lineman on the Super Bowl XXXIV team. He replaced Mike Gruttadauria as the starting center in 2000 and started all 16 games in each of six straight seasons through 2005. Madden NFL 2001 put him at 75 for the 2000 season, and he spent 2003 at left guard in place of the injured Tom Nutten.
Madden NFL 06 had him at 84 for the 2005 season. He played one game in 2006 after Richie Incognito took over at center, then returned for 10 starts in 2007. McCollum closed his career with Detroit in 2008, playing 12 games for a team that finished 0-16. He appeared in 199 regular-season games with 159 starts.
