Draft Profile: Bio
Demello Jones played running back, quarterback and defensive back at Swainsboro High School in Georgia. He ran for 1,279 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior, averaged 11.8 points a game in basketball and also ran track. Rated a four-star safety, he received invitations to the All-American Bowl as well as the Under Armour game. His uncle, Deke Cooper, played defensive back at Notre Dame and in the NFL.Jones made one tackle in six games as a 2024 freshman. His 2025 season brought 12 appearances, 25 tackles and five pass breakups, though he hurt his elbow against Florida and was beaten on the drive that set up Ole Miss's winning field goal.
Jones has started at left cornerback in 2026. He returned an interception 43 yards against Western Kentucky and picked off another pass against Florida. Kirby Smart has praised his ability to bounce back from mistakes.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Elite speed, ranking among the quickest cornerbacks in the class
- Two interceptions this season, including a 43-yard return against Western Kentucky
- Former running back who turns interceptions into long returns
- Broke up a pass in the October game at Alabama
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Arkansas caught all six passes thrown at him for 102 yards
- Gave up a touchdown and missed two tackles against Auburn
- Six missed tackles this season and six more in 2025
- Committed three penalties, two of them against Western Kentucky
- Light frame that can be a problem against bigger receivers
Scouting Report: Summary
Jones is a fast, athletic cornerback who has become a starter for Georgia this season. He has elite speed and the ball skills of a former running back, as his two interceptions, including a long return against Western Kentucky, show. However, his coverage has been inconsistent, and Arkansas completed six of six on him for 102 yards. He has also missed six tackles and committed three penalties, and his frame is on the slight side.
Overall, Jones has the speed and playmaking teams want but needs more consistency. He projects as a priority free agent and could rise with another year at Georgia.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
