Scouting Report: Strengths
- Trusts his eyes with very good awareness. Has very good reaction skills to break quickly on the ball.
- Has a nice blend of length, speed, and quickness. He’s at his best mirroring routes underneath, showing fluid movement skills and the ability to change directions on a dime.
- Can track the ball downfield and gets his head around when playing in a trail position, and McClain shows excellent ball skills when breaking on a route. He’s a plus tackler in run support as well.
- Can get up on the line of scrimmage and deliver a solid punch early in routes, then use that quickness to shadow, or back off and close quickly when the ball comes out
- McClain has the straight-line speed to recover. His ball skills are tremendous, with good hands and the potential to take it to the house any time he gets his hands on the ball.
- Top-end speed is good and is capable of turning and running in press coverage. McClain also shows good instincts when sitting back in zone and looking into the backfield.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Too often gives too much of a cushion while playing off his man, and it becomes especially problematic since he’s not a particularly willing tackler.
- Grab-and-drag tackler who will struggle to make plays against running backs, and he’ll be susceptible to some catch-and-run plays against bigger receivers.
- Much better in coverage than McClain is in run support.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank

For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
