Cormani McClain set a Lake Gibson school record with 10 interceptions as a junior and had 19 across his last two years there, then transferred to Lakeland High School, which went 14-0 and won a Class 4S title. He was a five-star recruit and an Under Armour all-star in 2022.McClain started four of nine games for Colorado in 2023 and made 17 tackles, but he missed meetings, and Deion Sanders said he hoped he would go to a program that challenged him. He moved to Florida in the spring of 2024 and scored on an interception return against Kentucky that year. In 2025 he started six games and intercepted a pass against Miami, but missed meetings again led to early-morning team workouts, and a lower-body injury against Tennessee cost him the Florida State game.
McClain has started every week in 2026. He intercepted a pass at Auburn and made six tackles against South Carolina, but he has allowed three touchdowns, missed eight tackles and been flagged three times. Billy Napier has said there is a high ceiling there.
