Draft Profile: Bio
Samson Okunlola from Thayer Academy High School was rated a 5-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 5-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Okunlola opted to join Miami. In 2023 as a freshman Okunlola saw action in just 3 games and played a total of 30 snaps for the Hurricanes. He allowed no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing most of his snaps at left tackle.
As a sophomore in 2024 he played in 4 games and a total of 62 snaps. He conceded just 2 QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at tight tackle, and the rest at left tackle.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- A work in progress with some raw tools, has a solid blend of length and agility. Okunlola has a powerful upper body and does an impressive job using his length, with power behind his initial punch and the grip to grab and move defenders.
- Possesses a long, lean, athletic body with plenty of room for additional muscle mass. Long arms.
- Effective in space and usually drops his hips to get leverage and sustain against shorter defenders.
- Does a nice job on the second level, moving upfield quickly and showing the flexibility and balance to land blocks in space.
- Exhibits good patience in pass protection, sitting back in his set rather than leaning and lunging.
- Okunlola has long arms that allow him to survive as a pass protector on the edge, and Okunlola typically plays with good balance.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- While he’s solid as an athlete, he’s more comfortable moving forward as a run blocker than setting in pass protection, as Okunlola too often relies solely on his initial punch to stand up pass rushers instead of moving his feet.
- Has fairly heavy feet, struggling to mirror against quicker defenders. Okunlola lacks the range to get out as an effective puller, and he can often look stiff when moving out into space and zeroing in on bodies.
- Too often is pushed back into the pocket during pass protection becaus~ he bends at the waist rather than at the knees. Relies more on precise angles than physicality in the running game.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank

For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
