Draft Profile: Bio
The Bryan, Texas native transformed himself from a local high school standout into one of the nation's most feared pass rushers. At Bryan High School, Scourton dominated both ways before focusing on defense, where he compiled 136 tackles and eight sacks in his final two seasons while earning First Team All-District 12-6A recognition and an Army All-American Bowl selection. His collegiate journey began at Purdue, where he quickly established himself with 22 tackles as a true freshman before exploding onto the national scene in 2023. That sophomore campaign saw him lead the Big Ten with 10 sacks and earn Second Team All-Conference honors, showcasing the raw potential that made him a four-star recruit coming out of high school.
Transferring to Texas A&M for his junior year, Scourton continued his ascension against SEC competition. He started all 12 games, racking up 14 tackles for loss and 5 sacks while earning First Team All-SEC honors. His signature moment came against Arkansas, where his strip-sack in the fourth quarter sealed a crucial victory and demonstrated his knack for game-changing plays.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Devastating spin move that combines exceptional quickness and precise hand placement to consistently beat tackles clean - showcased this repeatedly against South Carolina and Nebraska
- Carries 285 pounds with remarkable athleticism
- Advanced pass rush arsenal featuring effective club-swim, cross-chop, and two-hand swipe moves that keep offensive tackles guessing
- Exceptional first-step quickness allows him to shoot B-gaps and punish oversetting tackles - repeatedly exposed protection schemes against Missouri
- Brings the thunder as a power rusher when he converts speed to force, showing the ability to put tackles on skates when he times his strike right
- Special teams experience across all four units adds immediate value while he develops - has shown a knack for blocking kicks
- Natural play strength at the point of attack makes him a nightmare for tight ends trying to seal the edge in the run game
- Motor never stops running - consistently chases plays from behind and fights through multiple blocks to get involved
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Hip tightness limits his ability to flatten around the corner - ends up getting pushed up the arc too often against technically sound tackles
- Struggles to maintain leverage against double teams and can get washed out when teams run directly at him with multiple blockers
- Pass rush plan can stall out when initial move is stopped - needs to develop better counter moves and learn to chain rushes together
- Tackling technique needs refinement as he tends to dive and miss in space rather than breaking down and securing the stop
- Pad level rises as he fatigues, particularly when playing from a two-point stance, causing him to lose battles he should win
Scouting Report: Summary
Scourton's blend of size, explosiveness, and technical refinement projects him as an immediate contributor in a 4-3 defensive front where his natural power and advanced rush setup can be maximized from a three-point stance. His proven production against top competition in both the Big Ten and SEC demonstrates the ability to win with both finesse and power at the next level. The vast majority of his impact early on will come as a designated pass rusher, where his spin move and ability to convert speed to power give him legitimate third-down value from day one. As he develops his counter moves and builds up his stamina, his role should expand into an every-down edge setter who can consistently pressure quarterbacks while holding the point against the run.
Looking at his athletic testing, production profile, and film study, Scourton projects as a top-40 selection who could sneak into the first round based on his youth (20 years old) and technical refinement. His immediate ceiling may be capped by his current limitations against double teams and need for counter-move development, but his foundation suggests Pro Bowl potential by year three.
