JT Tuimoloau from Eastside Catholic High School was rated a 5-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 5-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Tuimoloau joined Ohio State after being heavily recruited.In 2021 as a freshman Tuimoloau saw action in 13 games and played a total of 286 snaps for the Buckeyes. He recorded 11 tackles, 3 assists, while adding 10 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 12 total pressures, which included 8 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and 2 sacks on the season.
As a sophomore for the Buckeyes in 2022 Tuimoloau played in 12 games and took part in 453 snaps for the Buckeyes. He recorded 17 tackles, 6 assists, while adding 22 stops. As a pass rusher, he chalked up 30 total pressures, and 17 QB hurries, 7 QB hits, and 6 sacks during the year.

- His closing burst is outstanding, and Tuimoloau routinely finished plays last year. He has range and toughness as a run defender, capable of dropping anchor to set the edge and showing the acceleration to chase down the backside in pursuit.
- He has strong upper body and uses his hands well, though there is room to further utilize his length and hands in the pass rush.
- Plays with exceptional balance and body control, showing off a nasty spin move to counter his speed, with the natural instincts to know when to use it.
- Tremendous explosion; accelerates low with power. Relentless blindside pursuit; tracks down ballcarriers across the field.
- He’s best right now against the run, playing with a low pad level despite his relatively tall frame, and he has the violent hands to win at the point of attack.
- While he has the flexibility to dip and bend under tackles, and ability to counter, further development of counter moves would enhance his pass rush skills.
- He’s a high-effort pass rusher who shows good initial quickness and the ability to beat blockers to the inside.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Despite having strength and good hand use, Tuimoloau sometimes struggles to shed blockers and show ideal lateral movement skills. Improving these areas can make him more efficient.
- Stands up well against the run but is very pursuit-conscious and will take unneeded wide angles.
- Although having ability to counter in the pass rush, Tuimoloau needs to further develop his counter moves and improve his hand use for more effective pass rush.
