Damari Brown from American Heritage High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Brown opted to join Miami after being heavily recruited.In 2023 as a freshman Brown saw action in 9 games and played a total of 331 snaps at cornerback for the Hurricanes. He recorded 13 tackles, 4 assists, while adding 7 stops. In coverage Brown notched up no pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 97.5.
As a sophomore in 2024 he played in just one game and logged 14 snaps for the Hurricanes. He made just one tackle, no assists, and had no stops. In coverage he totaled no pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 66.7.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Flashes some physicality as a hitter.
- Tracks the ball well downfield and has the innate feel for high-point passes. He’s willing to come up and fill against the run and seems to take pride in delivering violent hits in run support.
- Brown has good size and is a fluid mover, capable of mirroring quickness underneath
- Physical, sheds defenders and works off blocks. Good toughness with recognition skills to fight through traffic and blow up screens.
- In the run game, he’s aggressive coming downhill and a sure tackler.
- Stays low in his backpedal and shows the click-and-close ability to break up plays in front of him. Brown can move well laterally and shows excellent instincts when looking into the backfield in zone coverage.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Lacks the timed speed to mirror and maintain contact downfield. Loses the ball on slow-developing plays and has a tendency to reach and grab when Brown gets antsy.
- Despite his size, he’s not an overly physical tackler. Brown might have to add some weight at the next level in order to become more physical.
- Struggles to transition and drive out of his backpedal when playing off-man. Like a lot of physical corners at the collegiate level, he’s too handsy downfield at this point.
