Draft Profile: Bio
Amare Thomas grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and played at Pinson Valley High School, helping win the 2020 Class 6A state title and catching 50 passes for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. He signed with UAB in December 2022.Thomas set UAB's freshman record with 53 catches in 2023, for 437 yards and three touchdowns, including nine catches for 60 yards and a touchdown against No. 1 Georgia. He caught 62 passes for 670 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024, earning honorable mention All-AAC honors, and then transferred to Houston. In 2025 he caught 67 passes for 966 yards and 12 touchdowns, with a career-high 157 yards on seven catches and 10 catches for three touchdowns against West Virginia, and he was a first-team All-Big 12 pick by the AP and a Big 12 All-Academic selection. He closed the season with seven catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns in the 38-35 Texas Bowl win over LSU.
Thomas announced on 29 December 2025 that he would return to Houston, posting that it was time to run it back, and he was an Athlon preseason third-team All-American. He caught a touchdown in the 28-26 loss at Texas Tech and had seven catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns in the 35-32 win over Oklahoma State. He has 41 catches for 620 yards and six touchdowns in eight games for a 6-2 team.

Thomas is a productive, sure-handed receiver who has produced at every stop. He set UAB's freshman catch record in 2023, caught 62 passes in 2024 and then broke out at Houston in 2025 with 67 catches for 966 yards and 12 touchdowns, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors. He has more than 220 career catches, and he closed 2025 with two touchdowns in the Texas Bowl win over LSU. He also caught nine passes against No. 1 Georgia as a freshman at UAB.He has continued to produce this season. He has 41 catches for 620 yards and six touchdowns in eight games, including seven catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns against Oklahoma State, and he has won seven of 10 contested targets. He has also gained 315 yards after the catch, and his hands, body control and feel for open space make him a reliable target for a 6-2 Houston team. He caught a touchdown in the two-point loss at Texas Tech as well.
However, his speed is a concern. His timed speed is below average, so he does not separate vertically, and he wins more with positioning and timing than quickness. He lines up mostly in the slot, which narrows his projection, and he will need to show he can create separation against NFL corners. Teams will look closely at his short-area quickness at the combine. He has dropped only two passes this season, so his hands are not the issue.
Overall, Thomas is a productive, reliable receiver whose hands and consistency give him a clear path to an NFL roster. He projects as a fifth-round receiver with the ceiling of a starting slot receiver and the floor of a dependable depth target. His experience and production should make him a valuable addition to a receiver room. He is a senior, so this is his final college season.
