Houston Rides Conner Weigman and a Loaded Backfield Into the Big 12 Title Chase

Houston closed 2025 at 10-3 (6-3 Big 12), a stunning six-win leap from back-to-back 4-8 finishes that ended with a 38-35 Texas Bowl victory over LSU, the program's seventh 10-win season and its first ranked finish in years. Willie Fritz enters Year 3 with the roster he wants, having added more than a dozen proven starters from the portal, and he is openly setting his sights on a Big 12 championship and the College Football Playoff. The preseason consensus buys in, slotting the Cougars inside the national top 20 and among the top three teams in a wide-open league.
