Draft Profile: Bio
Owen Chambliss played cornerback, safety and linebacker at Centennial High School in Corona, California, making 43 tackles and picking off five passes as a senior while earning first-team All-CIF and league MVP honors. He was a three-star recruit. He redshirted at Utah in 2023, then transferred to San Diego State, where he started seven games in 2024 before injuries cost him five games. He broke out in 2025 with 110 tackles, four sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss, earning first-team All-Mountain West honors. Along the way he also had hand surgery and recovered from a fractured fibula.
Chambliss followed defensive coordinator Rob Aurich to Nebraska in January 2026. He missed the opener with an injury but has started every game since, leading the team in tackles. He intercepted a pass at Michigan State and posted a career-high tackle total at Oregon, earning midseason All-America recognition from The Athletic.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Reliable tackler, with only three missed tackles in seven games
- Reads and fills quickly, with six stops at Oregon and four against Maryland
- Comfortable in zone coverage, with an interception at Michigan State
- Productive at two levels, with 110 tackles and first-team All-Mountain West honors in 2025
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Little impact as a pass rusher, with five pressures this season
- Allows plenty of catches underneath, 17 on 26 targets
- Washington completed six of nine passes thrown his way
- Injury history includes a fractured fibula, hand surgery and five missed games in 2024
- Missed the 2026 opener with an injury, adding to the medical questions
Scouting Report: Summary
Chambliss is a smart, dependable linebacker who has carried his Mountain West production into the Big Ten. He reads plays quickly, takes good angles and finishes, missing only three tackles this season, and his career-best day at Oregon showed he can handle a heavy workload against a top offense. However, he offers little as a pass rusher, and quarterbacks have found completions underneath him, as Washington did. His injury history is also long, from a fractured fibula and hand surgery to missed games in 2024 and the 2026 opener.
Overall, Chambliss is a productive, instinctive linebacker whose tools are only average. He projects as a priority free agent who will need to make his mark on special teams, and he may have a year of eligibility left.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
