Draft Profile: Bio
Aaron Butler was a four-star athlete at Calabasas High School in California, ranked No. 71 overall by ESPN. He caught 38 passes for 13 touchdowns as a junior and had 586 receiving yards in five games as a senior. He committed to USC and then Colorado before signing with Texas in December 2023. His father, Robb-Davon Butler, played at Pittsburgh and Robert Morris and signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2004.

Butler saw action once while redshirting at Texas in 2024. He caught one pass for 17 yards in three games in 2025 before entering the transfer portal in December.

At Oregon State this season, Butler has 16 catches for 233 yards and a touchdown, and he has also run for a score. He caught a touchdown against Montana, had four catches for 41 yards against Texas Tech and caught all three of his targets for 48 yards at Colorado State.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Elite speed, timing at the very top of the forty rankings
  • Caught all three targets for 48 yards at Colorado State
  • Used as a runner too, with a rushing touchdown this season
  • Former four-star recruit with family ties to the NFL
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Fewer than half of his 34 targets this season were caught
  • Came down with just two of seven contested balls in 2026
  • Very light frame that will struggle against press coverage
  • Managed one catch for 16 yards against Washington State
  • Played in only four games over two years at Texas
Scouting Report: Summary
Few players in the class can match Butler's speed, and he has finally found a role at Oregon State. He can stretch the field and is a threat on handoffs and after the catch, as his rushing touchdown and his catches at Colorado State showed.

However, he has caught fewer than half of his targets, and contested balls have been a weakness. He is also very light, and he barely played in two seasons at Texas.

Overall, Butler is a raw speed prospect with a short track record. He projects as a priority free agent but has eligibility left to keep developing.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
