Draft Profile: Bio
Kobe Black played receiver, running back and safety at Connally High School in Waco and returned two interceptions for touchdowns in 2022. ESPN ranked him No. 20 nationally among 2024 recruits, and he earned a spot in the Under Armour all-star game while also running track and playing basketball. His brother, Korie, is a defensive back at Oklahoma State.Black made 13 tackles over 16 appearances in 2024, a run that included the SEC title game and three College Football Playoff games. In 2025 he made 15 tackles and sealed the win over Texas A&M with an interception on 28 November, though he missed the Sam Houston game injured. He spent two days in the portal in January 2026 before returning to Texas.
Black moved from cornerback to safety in August and has made five starts in six games. He made four tackles against Ohio State and four more against Florida on 18 October. He missed the UTSA game with an injury.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Sealed the 2025 win over Texas A&M with an interception
- Former top-20 national recruit with good size for a safety
- Experienced in big games, including three playoff games as a freshman
- Made four tackles in the September game against Ohio State
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Missed five tackles this season, three of them against Florida
- Still learning safety after moving from cornerback in August
- Gave up three touchdowns in coverage in 2025
- Average speed shows when he has to cover the deep half
- Injuries cost him games in both 2025 and 2026
Scouting Report: Summary
Black is a big, physical defensive back who has moved to safety this season. He has good size, played in big games as a freshman and made a key play to seal the 2025 win over Texas A&M.However, he has missed five tackles this year, and Florida accounted for three of them. He is new to safety, lacks top-end speed and gave up three touchdowns in coverage in 2025.
Overall, Black is a talented but unproven safety who needs more time. He projects as a priority free agent who could stay at Texas for another year.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
