Draft Profile: Bio
Eugene Wilson III emerged as a dynamic playmaker for the Florida Gators, following in the footsteps of his father, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots. The younger Wilson quickly made his mark in Gainesville, earning Freshman All-SEC honors in 2023. His impressive debut season saw him lead the team with six touchdown catches while finishing second in receptions (61) and receiving yards (538).

Wilson's journey to Florida began as a highly touted recruit out of Tampa's Gaither High School. Rated as a five-star prospect by On3, he was ranked as the No. 32 player and a top-5 receiver in the 2023 class. Wilson's versatility was evident early on, as he excelled on both sides of the ball in high school, catching 40 passes for 764 yards and 11 touchdowns during his senior season while also recording five interceptions on defense.

At Florida, Wilson wasted no time making an impact. He started seven games as a true freshman, showcasing his big-play ability with an 85-yard touchdown reception against Samford – the Gators' longest play since 2017. His sophomore campaign was cut short due to injury, but he still managed to amass 191 receiving yards and a touchdown in just two games, hinting at his potential for explosive production when healthy.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Sudden acceleration off the line with long speed to take the top off defenses
  • Twitchy athlete with elite change-of-direction skills, creating instant separation in his routes
  • Soft mitts with plus body control, demonstrating consistent hands away from his frame
  • YAC monster who can make the first man miss and hit the home run in space
  • Swiss Army knife capable of aligning in the slot, outside, or being deployed on misdirection plays
  • Nuanced route runner who sets up defenders with head fakes and foot fire
  • Four-down player with the juice to impact the return game and cover kicks
  • Football bloodlines and field awareness suggest a natural feel for the game
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Undersized frame raises concerns about his ability to withstand the NFL's physical toll
  • Medical red flags after missing significant time in his sophomore campaign
  • Lacks ideal play strength to consistently break tackles or win 50/50 balls
  • May struggle to defeat press coverage without a significant bulk-up
  • Raw in some aspects of receiver play due to time spent on defense in high school
Scouting Report: Summary
A dynamic slot receiver with return specialist upside, Wilson brings instant juice to an NFL offense. His suddenness off the line and ability to separate make him a mismatch nightmare, particularly working the middle of the field. Wilson's route-running acumen and natural hands should allow him to see the field early, especially in spread formations.

In the right system, Wilson could become a chain-moving weapon with home run potential. His ability to threaten vertically while also creating separation underneath makes him an ideal fit for offenses that prioritize space and matchups. While his frame may limit his effectiveness outside the numbers, his skill set is tailor-made for today's pass-happy NFL.

Wilson's special teams acumen adds to his day one value, potentially contributing as both a returner and gunner. As he continues to add sand in his pants and refine his craft, Wilson has the tools to develop into a dangerous offensive weapon at the pro level. His ceiling will largely depend on his ability to stay healthy and add functional strength to his frame.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
