Andrew Gentry from Columbine High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Gentry opted to join Michigan.In 2022 as a freshman Gentry saw action in just 2 games and played a total of 28 snaps for the Wolverines. He allowed no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at right guard, and the rest at tight tackle.
As a sophomore in 2023 he played in 9 games and a total of 51 snaps. He conceded just 2 QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at right guard, and the rest at left tackle.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Moves well and squares to finish on the move. Better anchor than his height suggests and capable of absorbing a punch and recovering quickly.
- He’s especially light on his feet considering his size, a fluid mover who has natural balance as Gentry kick-slides and sets. Gentry has the long arms to ward off pass rushers and send them flying past the pocket.
- Has the feet to adjust when he anticipates what's coming. Effective trapping and bends at the knees with adequate core strength to absorb the bull rush. Can clear a path at the second level if he hits the target.
- Outstanding in the screen game, both because of his instincts to deceive defenders and mobility to get out in front and land blocks.
- As a pass protector, he plays with good balance and holds up against the bull rush. He has strong hands and does a nice job gripping and latching on once he has his hands on the pass rusher.
- Gentry has long arms that allow him to survive as a pass protector on the edge, and he typically plays with good balance.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Very raw technique, playing with inconsistent hand placement fails to sustain blocks.
- He’ll have trouble with elite quickness at the next level.
- His hands aren’t violent enough to stand pass rushers up early in the down, and Gentry generally plays with poor balance.
