Draft Profile: Bio
Ryan Baer graduated early from North High School in Eastlake, Ohio, and enrolled at Pitt in January 2022 after picking up more than 24 scholarship offers. He was a first-team All-Ohio selection in Division II and ranked No. 11 in the state by ESPN.After a redshirt season in 2022, he stepped into the lineup in 2023 after starter Matt Goncalves suffered a season-ending injury, making nine starts. He started all 13 games in 2024, eight at right tackle and five at left tackle. In 2025 he started every game at right tackle and earned honorable mention All-ACC.
Now a fifth-year senior with 35 career starts entering the season, Baer was voted a 2026 team captain and named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list. He has yet to give up a sack in nine games at right tackle, and he played 88 snaps against Georgia Tech, giving up two pressures.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- No sacks allowed in nine starts at right tackle, including 88 snaps against Georgia Tech
- Starting experience at both tackle spots gives teams a ready-made swing option
- Big, heavy frame helps him absorb power rushers and reset his anchor
- Team captain whose leadership and durability show in 35-plus career starts
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Lateral quickness is average and speed rushers pressure him off the edge
- Run blocking lacks drive, with too many blocks that end in a stalemate
- Penalties creep in against speed, with three flags this season, two at Virginia Tech
- Gave up six sacks in 2024 when he moved between left and right tackle
- Struggles to reach and seal on outside zone runs to the perimeter
Scouting Report: Summary
Baer is a durable, experienced tackle who has been the anchor of Pitt's line for three seasons, and 2026 has been his cleanest year. He uses his size to absorb power rushers, and he has yet to allow a sack, including a long afternoon against Georgia Tech. His captaincy and starts at both tackle spots add to his appeal. However, he is not a fluid mover. Speed rushers can get on his edge, he drew two flags in the Virginia Tech game, and his run blocking produces more stalemates than movement. His 2024 tape, when he moved between sides, was much less steady.
Overall, Baer is a reliable, high-character right tackle whose ceiling is capped by average movement skills. He projects as a seventh-round swing tackle who could stick on a roster thanks to his experience at both spots.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
