Draft Profile: Bio
Peyton Bowen grew up in Corinth, Texas, and starred at Guyer High School alongside future Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold, making more than 200 tackles, 12 interceptions and 23 pass breakups and earning district MVP honors. ESPN, On3 and Rivals rated him a five-star recruit, with Rivals ranking him No. 12 nationally, and 247Sports had him as a four-star. A 2022 Under Armour All-American and Mr. Texas Football semifinalist, he committed to Notre Dame before flipping to Oklahoma. His brother, Eli, is also a defensive back at Oklahoma.

Bowen played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2023, making 36 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble and blocking two punts, which led the Big 12, and he was a Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year semifinalist. Lingering foot and ankle issues, including turf toe, cut into his snaps late in 2023 and 2024, but he played in all 26 games. Finally healthy in 2025, he started all 13 games at strong safety, made 47 tackles and two interceptions, made the game-sealing fourth-down stop at Alabama and was a second-team All-SEC pick by the coaches.

Bowen has started all eight games in 2026 for a 4-4 team. He had seven tackles and a 42-yard pick-six that gave Oklahoma a 24-17 lead in its 27-24 win over No. 1 Texas, earning SEC defensive player of the week and his second Thorpe Award national defensive back of the week honor. He added an interception at Mississippi State, and he has two interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble this season.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Rare speed for a safety, with a top-tier forty
  • Returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown in the win over No. 1 Texas
  • Has four interceptions over the last two seasons combined
  • Versatile playmaker with a sack and a forced fumble this season
  • Made the game-sealing fourth-down stop at Alabama in 2025
  • Experienced starter with more than 45 career games and special teams value
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Allowed five touchdowns in coverage during the 2025 season
  • Missed six tackles this season and six in 2025
  • Foot and ankle injuries cut into his snaps in 2023 and 2024
  • Light frame for a strong safety who plays near the line
Scouting Report: Summary
Bowen is a fast, experienced safety who has become one of the playmakers on Oklahoma's defense. He has rare speed for the position, four interceptions over the last two seasons and the versatility to play deep, in the box and near the line, with a sack and a forced fumble this season. He is also a proven special teams player who blocked two punts as a freshman, and he has started every game since the start of 2025.

His biggest moments have come in big games. He made the game-sealing fourth-down stop at Alabama in 2025, and this season he returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown to give Oklahoma the lead in its 27-24 win over No. 1 Texas, earning SEC defensive player of the week and national defensive back of the week honors. He added an interception at Mississippi State, and Brent Venables has said he picked up where he left off from last season.

However, his coverage has had boom-or-bust moments. He allowed five touchdowns in 2025 and another this season, and he has missed six tackles in both 2025 and 2026. Foot and ankle injuries, including turf toe, cut into his snaps late in both 2023 and 2024, so teams will review his medical history. His frame is also light for a strong safety who often plays close to the line, and Oklahoma's 4-4 record has limited his chances to stand out.

Overall, Bowen is a fast, instinctive safety whose speed, ball skills and big-game plays give him a clear path to an NFL role. He projects as a fourth-round safety with the ceiling of a starter who can play deep or in the box and the floor of a core special teams player. His recruiting pedigree and production this fall suggest he is still improving.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
