Draft Profile: Bio
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa left St. John Bosco in California as a high school Butkus Award finalist and the Los Angeles Times' top player of 2023. His senior year produced 114 tackles, 13 in the backfield, and as a junior he won the CIF's top defensive award while the Braves claimed a MaxPreps national title. He missed his sophomore season after tearing his right ACL. Rivals rated him a five-star, and he chose Notre Dame over Ohio State and USC.Viliamu-Asa appeared in all 14 games of his first college season in 2024, making 37 tackles with an interception against Purdue and a fumble recovery against Ohio State. In 2025 he made 48 tackles and paced the Irish in tackles for loss over 11 games before tearing the ACL in his left knee against Syracuse on 22 November. He had reconstructive surgery, and Notre Dame was left out of the playoff.
He returned to full contact in August 2026 without a brace, with linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary saying he was about six weeks ahead of schedule. He sat out the opener against Wisconsin, then made five tackles and recovered a fumble against Rice in his season debut. He picked off a pass at North Carolina, missed the Stanford game with a thumb injury and returned to play at BYU. Jean-Mary has said every rep he takes looks the same, from walkthroughs to full speed.

Scouting Report: Summary
Viliamu-Asa is a do-everything off-ball linebacker whose run defense sits at the top of the position. He is a downhill force who also plays over the slot and on the line, with the range, trigger and alignment flexibility to cover, blitz and take on blocks. Before his injury in 2025 he was Notre Dame's leader in tackles for loss and ranked among the busiest linebackers in the country.His return from the knee has been encouraging. He came back to full contact well ahead of schedule, made five tackles and recovered a fumble in his season debut against Rice, picked off a pass at North Carolina and has eight pressures on limited snaps. His coaches say every rep looks the same regardless of the speed, and he moves with the pace he showed before the injury.
However, the medical file is the swing factor. He tore his left ACL against Syracuse in November 2025 after tearing his right ACL in high school, and a thumb injury cost him the Stanford game this fall. Teams will want to know how both knees hold up over a full season, and he has played only five games in 2026, though he has now appeared in 30 college games overall. On the field, he is light for an every-down linebacker and can be tested by downhill power between the tackles, and the four throws aimed at him this season were all caught.
Overall, Viliamu-Asa is a rare size-speed athlete who plays fast in space and fills the stat sheet with physical football, and a clean medical would leave the tape as the only question. He projects as a first-round linebacker who can start on all three downs early and give a coordinator real sub-package value. A full, healthy finish to 2026 would settle the biggest question.
Update - 11/03/2026
Viliamu-Asa returned from last November's torn ACL in Week 2. A left thumb injury kept him out of the Stanford game and limited his snaps at BYU, and he is listed questionable against Navy. He has 15 tackles and an interception in five games.
