Jaheim Oatis, a defensive lineman from Alabama, emerged as a force on the Crimson Tide's front line during his collegiate career. Born and raised in Columbia, Mississippi, Oatis was a standout at Columbia High School, earning a spot on the Clarion Ledger's 2020 All-State Team as a junior with 65 tackles, 18 for loss, and three sacks.Arriving at Alabama as a highly touted recruit, Oatis quickly made his presence felt. In his freshman season, he played in 12 games with 10 starts, earning Freshman All-SEC recognition. He recorded 29 tackles, including two for loss and one sack, along with four quarterback hurries and two pass breakups.
Oatis built on his strong debut in his sophomore campaign, appearing in 13 games with three starts. He made 26 tackles, including one for loss and half a sack, while adding two quarterback hurries and two pass breakups. His consistent performance earned him a spot on the Outland Trophy Watch List, recognizing the nation's top interior lineman.

Oatis has the frame teams dream on, a 325-pound interior body with the length to two-gap and absorb blocks, and when he reaches the ball he finishes, missing no tackles on the year. He held the point at West Virginia for a pair of stops, and the early-down size is something few interior players can match. The raw tools that made him an All-SEC freshman at Alabama are still in there somewhere, which is why he keeps drawing developmental interest.The production tells a harder story. His output cratered to zero sacks and six pressures, the snap count fell to 258 in a part-time role, and the run defense landed below average despite the bulk. The pass rush offers almost nothing, with no finishing burst inside, and the career arc has never matched the recruiting hype that followed him out of high school. He is a reclamation project whose tape has gone the wrong direction.
What is left to bet on is the frame and the flashes of anchor, a developmental nose tackle who has to rediscover the form that made him a heralded recruit. He has to win back snaps and rebuild the run defense to hold a roster spot, because there is no pass-rush production to lean on. That points to a priority-free-agent grade on size and upside, with the burden on him to prove it.
