Draft Profile: Bio
Jaheim Oatis, a defensive lineman from Alabama, emerged as a force on the Crimson Tide's front line during his collegiate career. Born and raised in Columbia, Mississippi, Oatis was a standout at Columbia High School, earning a spot on the Clarion Ledger's 2020 All-State Team as a junior with 65 tackles, 18 for loss, and three sacks.

Arriving at Alabama as a highly touted recruit, Oatis quickly made his presence felt. In his freshman season, he played in 12 games with 10 starts, earning Freshman All-SEC recognition. He recorded 29 tackles, including two for loss and one sack, along with four quarterback hurries and two pass breakups.

Oatis built on his strong debut in his sophomore campaign, appearing in 13 games with three starts. He made 26 tackles, including one for loss and half a sack, while adding two quarterback hurries and two pass breakups. His consistent performance earned him a spot on the Outland Trophy Watch List, recognizing the nation's top interior lineman.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Hulking presence with elite size and play strength. Anchor-plus against double teams, consistently stacks and sheds to clog running lanes.
  • Heavy hands at the point of attack. Violent punch allows him to shock and shed blockers, creating havoc in both run and pass situations.
  • Surprisingly twitchy get-off for a big man. Fires out of his stance with good pad level, creating instant penetration to disrupt blocking schemes.
  • Scheme versatile. Can two-gap as a 0-tech or play as a 1-tech/3-tech, maintaining effectiveness across multiple fronts and alignments.
  • High football IQ. Reads keys quickly, rarely fooled by misdirection. Instinctive player who finds the ball and flows to the action.
  • Pocket pusher with the raw power to walk back centers and guards. Collapses the pocket from the interior, flushing QBs and creating sack opportunities.
  • Motor runs hot. Plays with good stamina and effort, maintaining his effectiveness deep into the fourth quarter despite his size.
  • Flashes as an interior pass rusher. Bull rush is his bread and butter, but shows potential to develop counters and expand his rush package.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Pad level can rise as he tires. Needs to maintain leverage consistently, or savvy NFL linemen will get under his pads and neutralize his power.
  • Wrap-up technique needs refinement. Too often relies on his mass to bring down ball carriers rather than proper form tackling.
  • One-dimensional pass rusher at this stage. Relies heavily on bull rush; must develop secondary moves to consistently win against NFL-caliber interior linemen.
  • Limited range outside the tackle box. Lateral agility and change of direction skills need improvement to be a factor in space and in pursuit.
  • Weight management will be crucial. Must maintain optimal playing weight to maximize effectiveness and endurance throughout a grueling NFL season.
Scouting Report: Summary
Oatis fits the mold of a rotational piece in an NFL defensive line, with the potential to develop into a starting nose tackle or 1-technique in a 4-3 scheme. His size and strength make him an ideal fit for teams employing a two-gap system, where he can occupy blockers and allow linebackers to flow to the ball.

His ability to generate interior pressure will be attractive to defensive coordinators looking to disrupt opposing quarterbacks without relying solely on edge rushers. As Oatis refines his technique and expands his pass-rush arsenal, he could become a three-down player capable of impacting both the run and pass game.

While he may not be an every-down starter immediately, Oatis has the physical tools and football intelligence to carve out a significant role in an NFL defensive rotation. His continued development in pass-rush techniques and consistency in leverage could elevate him to a higher-impact player at the next level.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
