Draft Profile: Bio
CJ Carr grew up in Saline, Michigan, with football in his blood. His father Jason played at the University of Michigan, and his grandfather Lloyd Carr served as the Wolverines' head coach. A consensus four-star recruit ranked as a top-40 national prospect by both ESPN and 247Sports, Carr earned Elite 11 Finals honors and played in the All-American Bowl after a decorated high school career that included three first-team all-state selections and back-to-back conference championships.

Carr redshirted his true freshman year at Notre Dame in 2024 before winning the starting job the following fall. He started all 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2025, completing 66.7% of his passes for 2,741 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. His 9.4 yards per attempt ranked second nationally, and his passer rating of 168.06 set a new Notre Dame program record.

Those numbers earned Carr second-team Freshman All-American honors along with finalist nods for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year and Manning Awards.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Compact, repeatable release; the ball comes out clean and on time, throw after throw
  • Drops back-shoulder fades and out-breakers in with accuracy to set up the offense
  • Will challenge deep, hitting a 54-yard strike to Faison at Stanford
  • Resets his feet to a clean platform under pressure instead of bailing the pocket
  • Threw with anticipation against NC State, fitting balls before receivers broke open
  • Went 7 of 7 in the second quarter at Boston College, two of them deep scores
  • Coachable week to week, erasing a pre-snap tell the game after Texas A&M
  • Protects himself and the ball, taking only eight sacks behind a quick clock
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Light frame that NFL rushers will test as the pocket collapses around him
  • Creates little off-script; he wins from structure, not by extending with his legs
  • Pressed under pressure at USC and Pittsburgh, forcing tight-window throws into picks
Scouting Report: Summary
Carr is the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, a four-star who redshirted in 2024 with throwing-elbow soreness that never required surgery, then opened 2025 as Notre Dame's starter and became the first Irish quarterback since 2021 with multiple 300-yard games, collecting Manning Award and Davey O'Brien weekly honors. The calling card is a compact, repeatable release; the ball comes out clean and on time throw after throw, and the placement on back-shoulder fades and out-breakers sets up everything underneath.

His best tape is encouraging. He went a perfect 7 of 7 in the second quarter at Boston College with two deep scores, picked apart NC State when it loaded the box by throwing with anticipation, and hit a 54-yard strike to Jordan Faison at Stanford to show he will pull the trigger downfield. He resets his feet to a clean platform under pressure rather than bailing, corrects mistakes fast, a pre-snap tell against Texas A&M was gone the next week, and he protects the ball and himself, taking only eight sacks behind a quiet internal clock.

The cautions start with the frame. He is light and NFL rushers will test him as the pocket collapses, and he creates little off-script, winning from structure rather than extending with his legs. The USC and Pittsburgh games stick, because under sustained pressure he got small and forced tight-window throws into interceptions. He has one year of starting tape, much of it with two of the best backs in college football drawing eight-man boxes, so the production is hard to fully isolate. He returns to Notre Dame for 2026. Overall, the release and the processing are real first-round traits, and the 2026 tape, without that elite backfield carrying the run game, is the test that settles the evaluation.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
