Cade Klubnik, born October 10, 2003, stands at 6'2" and weighs 210 pounds. He hails from Austin, Texas, where he attended Westlake High School. At Westlake, Klubnik led the team to three consecutive state championships from 2019 to 2021, serving as the starting quarterback for the final two years. In his high school career, he completed 481 of 687 passes (70.0%) for 7,426 yards and 86 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. Klubnik also demonstrated his dual-threat capabilities, rushing 197 times for 1,319 yards (6.7 avg.) and 31 touchdowns.Klubnik's impressive high school performance earned him numerous accolades. He was named USA Today Offensive Player of the Year in both 2020 and 2021, as well as Texas Gatorade Player of the Year in 2021. Klubnik also received MVP honors at the Elite 11 Camp in 2021 and was a finalist for the National Gatorade Player of the Year. His recruiting profile was equally impressive, with Rivals.com ranking him as the No. 3 overall player in the nation and 247Sports listing him as the No. 13 player nationally and the second-best quarterback.
At Clemson, Klubnik has continued to make his mark. In his freshman year (2022), he completed 61 of 100 passes for 697 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions, earning ACC Championship Game MVP honors. As a full-time starter in 2023, Klubnik threw for 2,844 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions, completing 290 of 454 passes. He also added 182 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground. Scouting Report: Strengths
- Dual-threat playmaker with plus wheels and escapability
- Gunslinger mentality with the arm talent to zip throws into tight windows
- Quick-twitch release minimizes pressure impact in the pocket
- Exhibits touch and arc on deep balls, particularly on back-shoulder fades
- Flashes off-platform throwing ability when plays break down
- Demonstrates pocket presence and ability to extend plays with his legs
- Shows aptitude for reading full-field progressions in Air Raid-inspired system
- Natural leader with proven track record of success at multiple levels
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Tendency to play "streetball" under duress, leading to forced throws
- Needs refinement in progressing through reads consistently
- Ball placement wavers, particularly when leading receivers away from coverage
- Occasionally hunts the big play at the expense of safer options
- Anticipation throws are hit-or-miss; can be late pulling the trigger
Scouting Report: Summary
Klubnik possesses the tools to develop into a solid signal-caller at the next level. His quick release and dual-threat capabilities provide a solid foundation for success in today's NFL. Operating primarily from the gun in Clemson's spread attack, Klubnik has shown improvement in full-field reads and decision-making in 2024.Best suited for an offense that leverages his mobility and arm talent. Play-action heavy schemes or spread concepts that allow for both designed runs and scramble opportunities would maximize his skill set. Klubnik's ability to throw on the move and vary ball speeds makes him an intriguing prospect for teams looking to add dynamism to their passing attack.
While raw in some aspects, Klubnik's trajectory is promising. His early 2024 performance, including a 7-TD game against Appalachian State and a strong showing against NC State, hints at his ceiling. However, consistency against top-tier competition remains a question mark. Teams will need to weigh his high-upside tools against his current limitations in anticipation and decision-making under pressure.
