Draft Profile: Bio
Alex Honig grew up in Bavaria and played quarterback for the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns, where he was rated the top player in Germany. He came to the United States as a three-star pro-style quarterback and signed with TCU.

Honig redshirted in 2021 and played on special teams in 2022 before transferring to UConn and moving to tight end. A season-ending injury at Georgia State in September 2023 cost him that year, but he caught three touchdowns in 2024 and made seven starts in 2025, adding 13 catches for 162 yards and three scores and earning a spot on the Freaks List.

Honig transferred to Northwestern for his final year of eligibility and has been the starting tight end in 2026. He caught three passes for 54 yards at Indiana and scored in the 42-14 win over Rutgers on 24 October, giving him three touchdowns on 15 catches.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Productive in the red zone, with three touchdowns on 15 catches
  • Big target with reliable hands, catching 15 of 19 targets
  • Averages more than 15 yards a catch on seam and crossing routes
  • Rare athlete for his size, a Freaks List pick in 2025
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Blocking is inconsistent for his size, especially in pass protection
  • Limited volume, with fewer than three targets a game
  • Managed one catch for eight yards at Oregon
  • Season-ending injury at UConn in 2023 is part of his medical file
  • Older prospect who has played at three schools over six years
Scouting Report: Summary
Honig is a big, athletic tight end with a quarterback's feel for coverage. He finds space on seam and crossing routes, catches what is thrown to him and has been productive in the red zone, as his touchdown against Rutgers showed.

However, his blocking does not match his size, and his role in the passing game is limited, with fewer than three targets a game. He is an older prospect, and a season-ending injury in 2023 is part of his history.

Overall, Honig offers rare athletic traits for a tight end and an unusual background that teams will find interesting. He projects as a priority free agent who needs to improve as a blocker to stick.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
