Luke Reynolds grew up in Westford, Massachusetts, played at Lawrence Academy and then Cheshire Academy in Connecticut, and caught 48 passes for 754 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior, earning NEPSAC MVP honors. 247Sports eventually rated him a five-star recruit and the No. 1 tight end in the 2024 class, and he played in the All-American Bowl before enrolling early at Penn State.Reynolds played all 16 games as a freshman in 2024, with four starts, catching nine passes for 111 yards and a touchdown behind Tyler Warren as Penn State reached the playoff semifinal. He started seven games in 2025 and caught 26 passes for 257 yards, with his best game against Villanova, in a season in which Penn State fired James Franklin. He followed Franklin to Virginia Tech for 2026, the second Penn State tight end to make that move after Matt Henderson.
Reynolds has become one of the most productive tight ends in the country, and his 50 catches lead all FBS tight ends. He caught eight passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns against Old Dominion and a career-high 12 for 107 yards at Maryland, becoming the first Virginia Tech player since 2018 with back-to-back 100-yard games, and he caught the game-winning touchdown on fourth-and-1 with 1:44 left in the 20-16 win at Clemson. He has 499 yards and six touchdowns in eight games for a 6-2 team.

Scouting Report: Summary
Reynolds has turned his five-star pedigree into production in his first season at Virginia Tech. He leads all FBS tight ends with 50 catches, has 499 yards and six touchdowns in eight games and has dropped one pass on 62 targets. He has rare speed for the position, lines up inline and in the slot and has become a focal point of the Virginia Tech offense.He has also produced in big moments. He had back-to-back 100-yard games against Old Dominion and Maryland, the first Virginia Tech player to do that since 2018, caught a fourth-down pass that sealed the win at Maryland and scored the game-winning touchdown on fourth-and-1 with 1:44 left at Clemson. His move with James Franklin from Penn State has given him the role he never had behind Tyler Warren and in a crowded 2025 tight end room. Virginia Tech is 6-2, and he has become the player its offense looks for when a game is on the line.
However, his production is built on short and intermediate throws, with about 10 yards a catch, and he has not yet shown he can stretch the seam consistently. His blocking is still developing, and his frame is light for an inline tight end against NFL defensive ends. His Penn State production was modest, with 26 catches in 2025, so his breakout is still only eight games old, and teams will want to see it hold through November. He has won six of his 11 contested targets this season, a solid but not exceptional return for a player with his speed.
Overall, Reynolds is an athletic, reliable receiving tight end with rare speed and the pedigree of a top recruit. He projects as a third-round tight end with the ceiling of a starting move tight end, and as a junior he also has eligibility left if he chooses to return. His recruiting pedigree and his growth this fall suggest there is more to come as his body fills out.
