Draft Profile: Bio
Will Hammond threw for 3,901 yards and 35 touchdowns and ran for 1,077 yards and 19 more as a senior at Hutto High School in Texas. A four-star recruit, Elite 11 finalist and Mr. Texas Football finalist, he chose Texas Tech over Auburn, Oregon, Penn State and Texas A&M.Hammond got into four games in 2024, including a start in the Liberty Bowl, and redshirted. In 2025 he made two starts among eight appearances, throwing for 680 yards and seven touchdowns and running for 299 yards, and his performance against Utah earned him Big 12 offensive player of the week honors. He tore his ACL against Oklahoma State on 25 October 2025.
Hammond returned for the 2026 opener and has gone 6-1 as a starter. He completed 26 of 33 passes for 298 yards against Abilene Christian and threw for 257 yards in a 28-26 win over Houston. However, he threw three interceptions against Sam Houston and has six on the season, and Texas Tech lost 37-24 at Cincinnati on 24 October.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Has gone 6-1 as a starter this season
- Completed 26 of 33 passes against Abilene Christian
- Threw for 257 yards in the close win over Houston
- Dual threat who ran for 299 yards in 2025
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Sam Houston picked him off three times in September
- Six interceptions against six touchdown passes this season
- Tore his ACL against Oklahoma State in late October 2025
- Intercepted once in the 37-24 loss at Cincinnati
- Light frame that adds risk for a quarterback who runs
Scouting Report: Summary
Hammond is an athletic, competitive quarterback who has won six of his seven starts after a torn ACL. He throws accurately in rhythm, as his 26 of 33 day against Abilene Christian showed, and he can make plays with his legs. However, he has been careless with the ball, with six interceptions and three against Sam Houston alone. He is also light, he is coming off a major knee injury and he has only 10 career starts.
Overall, Hammond is a winner with real ball-security problems. He projects as a priority free agent with time left in college to clean up his decisions.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
