Draft Profile: Bio
Tim Keenan III grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Ramsay High School where he helped lead his team to a 10-3 record and an Alabama 5A state quarterfinal appearance as a junior. Ranked as a four-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals, Keenan was considered the No. 18 defensive tackle nationally by Rivals and the No. 9 player in Alabama. He suffered an MCL injury during his senior year of high school and arrived at Alabama weighing approximately 380 pounds before working with the Crimson Tide's strength and conditioning program to reshape his body.Keenan redshirted during the 2021 season and saw limited action in just two games during 2022. After cutting down to the 340-350 pound range and then losing another 30 pounds, he earned the starting nose tackle position in 2023. That season, he appeared in all games and recorded 38 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and one sack, while adding seven quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. In 2024, Keenan started 12 of 13 games and posted career highs with 40 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. His performance against South Florida (9 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks) earned him SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week recognition.
Off the field, Keenan was selected to the watch lists for the AFCA Good Works Team, the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year, and the Wuerffel Trophy, which recognizes community service efforts. He was twice recognized as one of the defensive players of the week by Alabama coaches during the 2024 season (USF and Auburn). In January 2025, Keenan announced via Instagram that he would be returning to Alabama for his final season of eligibility rather than entering the NFL Draft. His defensive line coach Freddie Roach praised his work ethic and leadership, stating after the South Florida game: "He's a tremendous guy. Comes in every day, works his butt off... I'd take 10 of him. The kid's unbelievable."
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Carries his 326 pounds with surprising movement skills, showing unexpectedly quick lateral burst when exchanging gaps and engaging stunts that catches interior linemen flat-footed.
- Fires hands with excellent timing and precision, particularly effective with a devastating club-swim combination that regularly sheds centers attempting solo blocks.
- Plays with natural leverage advantage that makes him a cinderblock in the middle – seen repeatedly against Michigan where he ate double teams and freed linebackers to flow cleanly.
- Displays remarkable contact balance with freakish ankle flexibility, able to anchor on one leg while absorbing contact, making him nearly impossible to uproot on drive blocks.
- Transformed his body through disciplined nutrition and training, dropping from 380 to 326 pounds while maintaining power – signals exceptional character and work ethic.
- Commands consistent double teams yet still accumulates production, collecting 40 tackles in 2024 despite facing constant attention from offensive coordinators.
- Shows surprising bend for his build, gets low and kicks out his lower half to flatten rush angles with more flexibility than most 320+ pounders display.
- Excels in close quarters with hand technique variety – utilizes swim, two-handed swipe, hump move, and club combinations with growing sophistication and timing.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Body composition remains a question mark – frame appears maxed out at 6'2", and controlling weight could become a long-term issue if discipline wavers at next level.
- Pass rush wins lack the explosiveness to threaten offenses consistently, often generating pressure through persistence rather than immediate penetration.
- Shows concerning vulnerability against sustained double teams where his initial anchor eventually gives way, getting displaced 2-3 yards downfield against power schemes.
- Length limitations allow offensive linemen to get into his chest before he can establish leverage, particularly evident against longer-armed SEC guards.
- Too often compromises gap integrity by rushing too far upfield, creating cutback lanes that savvy runners exploit – seen repeatedly against Tennessee and LSU.
Scouting Report: Summary
At the next level, this Alabama defensive tackle brings a clear identity as a space-eater with an anchor to hold the point of attack. The film shows a player who consistently demands attention in the run game, absorbing double teams with excellent leverage and freeing up second-level defenders. However, this strength comes with a concerning limitation – his lack of length allows offensive linemen to get into his frame too easily, negating some of his natural power advantage when facing longer-armed NFL guards. His substantial improvement against the run over his college career demonstrates both technical growth and physical development. The lateral quickness he displays when executing stunts and exchanging gaps hints at untapped pass-rush potential that could be further unlocked with refined hand usage. Yet his pass rush approach remains more methodical than explosive, relying on power and persistence rather than the quick-twitch burst that separates elite interior disruptors. Conditioning will be crucial at the next level – his physical transformation in college is commendable, but his frame appears near its optimal weight, and any regression could significantly diminish his movement skills.
The best defensive fits will feature him primarily on early downs in schemes that value two-gapping ability from interior defenders. His game translates best to odd-front defenses that allow him to align directly over centers or guards and stack blocks. The film reveals a player whose technical growth continues to outpace his athletic ceiling, suggesting a higher floor than boom-or-bust prospects but with defined limitations. Though he'll never be a double-digit sack producer, teams that understand how to leverage his strengths in the run game while strategically deploying him in favorable passing situations will find value in a rotational defender who brings reliability to the defensive interior.
