Lee Hunter from Blount High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Hunter joined UCF after being heavily recruited.In 2022 as a freshman Hunter saw action in 12 games and played a total of 202 snaps for the Knights. He recorded only 6 tackles, 5 assists, while adding 7 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 6 total pressures, which included 5 QB hurries, no QB hits, and one sack on the season.
As a sophomore for the Knights in 2023 Hunter played in 12 games and took part in 536 snaps for the Knights. He recorded 48 tackles, 13 assists, while adding 39 stops. As a pass rusher, he chalked up 23 total pressures, and 18 QB hurries, 4 QB hits, and one sack during the year.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Hunter shows impressive burst and enough quickness to occasionally threaten the edge as a pass rusher.
- Can make the impressive chest-to-chest bear hug tackle in the hole due to his ability to wreak havoc in the backfield.
- Provides some secondary interior pass rush, getting most penetration when playing three technique.
- Combines excellent power with initial quickness, but one of his best attributes are his violent hands, which Hunter uses with impressive precision.
- Shows a natural feel for setting up blockers and getting them off-balance. His hands are active and violent, and he quickly disengages with blockers and counters when his initial move stalls.
- Provides some secondary interior pass rush, getting most penetration when playing three technique.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Doesn't play fundamentally sound and lacks much technique in his repertoire.
- Hunter doesn’t show much in the way of dynamic change-of-direction ability on counter moves, and Hunter also has a limited repertoire of pass-rushing moves.
- He’s stiff as an athlete, as he lacks the flexibility to truly threaten the edge.
