Jaylon Braxton from Lone Star High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Braxton opted to join Arkansas after being heavily recruited.In 2023 as a freshman Braxton saw action in 8 games and played a total of 376 snaps at cornerback for the Razorbacks. He recorded 18 tackles, 4 assists, while adding 5 stops. In coverage Braxton notched up 7 pass breakups, one interception, and QB rating when targetted of 62.0.
As a sophomore in 2024 he played in just 2 games and logged 77 snaps for the Razorbacks. He made no tackles, no assists, and had no stops. In coverage he totaled 2 pass breakups, no interceptions, and an elite QB rating when targetted of 39.6.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- He’ll line up in press at times, where Braxton has a quick and powerful punch. His ball skills are good, and he plays with an extremely confident and competitive demeanor.
- Willing in run support, coming downhill quickly when he has a chance to make a play.
- Aware zone cornerback who is also adept in man coverage, flashing physical hand punch at the line and straight-line speed to stay with receivers downfield.
- Shows the click-and-close ability to backpedal and the ball skills to make plays. Braxton has loose hips to go along with good top-end speed, and he can flip around to turn and run in coverage.
- He’s tall-framed with long arms to match. With his powerful hands, straight-line speed, and fluidity in his hips, turning and chasing downfield shouldn’t be a problem.
- He’s physical at the line of scrimmage, showing unexpected power in his hands.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Tends to play conservatively and give too much cushion when playing off.
- Lacks a physical element to his game, and Braxton doesn’t have a frame that can carry a lot of weight. He’ll get outmuscled at the top of routes by bigger receivers.
- Has a high backpedal and loses a step in transition. Plays with adequate speed but there are concerns about his ability to handle the truly explosive speedsters of the NFL.
